The thing is I love sad endings, but I need hope and love present. This book ended with the horror of a lost person who would never see the truth again, a broken soul with no hope or love. That scares me."

The plot definitely had some potential I just didn’t love the ending or some riskier subjects that it had. "dnf at 37% While I can appreciate what this book was trying to do, it over all wasn't for me. I had to read this for class otherwise I probably wouldn't have picked this up on my own. The story follows a man named Winston who lives in this dystopian version of 1984 where there is a controlling government that is always watching you. While I can appreciate and respect the importance of this book and why we had to read it, it was such a struggle to get into. I find when I don't care about the characters in a book, I don't care about the story. Winston is an extremely unlikable sexist main character. While I can understand you can like a book and hate the protagonist, this was a different kind of dislike. I couldn't sympathize with a man who said things along the lines of smashing a girls head against a brick wall and then sleeping with her. In a story about a terrifying world, I didn't feel for anything he was going through. The other characters were not really memorable besides maybe Julia. I couldn't keep on with what was going on as a lot of the story felt info dumpy. This book is creepy with thinking about how our world is today, however, I just couldn't care for it. I've learned I just don't enjoy classics but I can respect why they are so significant."
